Taking Charge of Your Health

At the very beginning, our bodies were created in perfect balance and harmony.  We were also given the gift of free will.  Because of temptation, we have taken the path that has caused imbalances.  Generation after generation, our choices have caused more dis-eases in our bodies.  However, we also have the option to take control of our health and return to the path of homeostasis.

How do we find this path of well-being?

Always remember to do things that serve our body, mind, and spirit well.  We treat our bodies well by putting only pure and natural substances in and on it.  We can choose to think and speak only in love about our self and others. And to always remember that there is a power greater than us that will happily guide us on our journey.

Now is the time to make positive changes in your life.  There are many professionals that will help guide you but ultimately, it is up to you to take responsibility for your health.  You have the power to create the life that you want.  It starts with taking the first step.

Here are a few fictional examples of different approaches to healthcare:

Scenario A

Sally is a 40-year-old woman who uses conventional medicine.  She is overweight and is on daily medication for several health issues.  Her health concerns are consuming her life and she is finding herself getting sicker and becoming more isolated from her family and friends.  Recently, she watched a TV show about a group of people who took control of their health.  Sally felt motivated to make positive changes in her life.  With the support and guidance from her doctors, she changed her diet, and began to incorporate natural treatments for her dis-eases.  Slowly, she was able to wean off of her prescription medication.  During this time, Sally was taught about the mind-body relationship and soon realized that many of her health concerns had a connection to her traumatic childhood.  She now schedules regular appointments with Denise at LIFEshift, discover JOY to address these issues.  Sally is on the road to wellness and understands that it will take some time to keep her body in balance because of the years of not taking care of herself.

Scenario B

Jim is a 60-year-old man who grew up in a house that stressed the importance of healthy living.  He eats nourishing foods and gets plenty of exercise at his job.  Jim has a variety of traditional doctors that he sees on a regular basis to keep is body in balance.  He also uses natural substances that have little or no side effects for the minor imbalances he may experience.  Recently Jim had a fearful incident at his job then began to suffer from heartburn.  His traditional treatments were helping but not preventing the heartburn.  So he made some appointments with Denise at LIFEshift, discover JOY to address the emotional connection to this physical condition.  When his fears were addressed and his beliefs changed, Jim was able to once again live in a balanced body.

Scenario C

Matt and Mindy have been married for eight years and have a six-year-old son, Ben.  Matt and Mindy both understand the importance of eating healthy, getting regular exercise, and using essential oils for their health concerns.  They are raising Ben with these same values.  Ben is always testing his limits and one day went a little too far and broke his arm.  Mindy took him to the emergency room, where the doctor saw that Ben would need surgery to repair his broken arm.  This holistic hospital used aromatherapy, hypnosis, and acupuncture to help Ben during his surgery and healing.  He did need some conventional medicine several times during his stay when the pain and fear were severe.  Soon Ben was physically healed and back to his curious self.  However, Mindy understood the importance of the mind-body connection and made a couple of appointments with Denise at LIFEshift, discover JOY to address any issues that Ben and his parents might have because of this traumatic experience.

Through my rose-colored glasses, I see how everyone can work together – patient, conventional doctor, traditional doctor, and many other practitioners – to balance the whole body: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.  However, every person, every situation is different and it is your job to decide which approach is right for you.  I encourage you to connect with those who have an open heart and are thankful for the gift of being able to practice their passion. Together, we CAN form a community of living a healthy, joy-filled life!
